HOME - SHAPES OF NATURE
THE FINAL TAKEOVER series
Nature is wise. I believe that when we would re-connect with nature, our lives (and that of our beautiful planet) could become healthy again. We can only re-connect if we are in awe of nature. To realize that, the first thing to do is to look closely at nature.
With my fine art photography, I like to bring you closer and let you connect with the basis of all life.
Instead of showing you the most gorgeous landscapes, I show you the overlooked, the seemingly unimportant parts of nature that nevertheless show incredible wisdom, power and authenticity. Qualities we can all relate to, because we too are nature.
In 2016 I published a book about the human/nature connection, called 'Zelfvertrouwen - leer vertrouwen op je natuurlijke zelf' (click on the title. Only available in Dutch) now I add art to my vision.
FRANÇOISE VAAL (1965)
While looking at my mother's amateur landscape photography as a kid, I dreamt of one day capturing the beauty of nature for myself. After more than twenty years as a picture editor for newspapers/magazines and producing e-learning projects, managing exhibitions, edit videos and work as an ecotherapist, it was time to focus on re-connecting with nature through, of course, photography. Being in nature and using all my senses to try and capture the essence of life, keeps me sane in a crazy world. I am self-taught and my home base is The Netherlands. In my blog (Dutch) I write about the 'why' of my artworks.
In my photographic art you will find details of, for instance, plants, flowers or trees that are undeniably important for life. Parts that might show struggle or tenacity or maybe even creative and improvisational qualities. It might be a color, it might be a shape or texture that grabs my attention.
When I see a work of art in nature, I capture the image and in post-production I emphasize the characteristic I was drawn to. I might add layers of colours or textures to finalize the artwork and make the natural feature stand out.
